Synopsis

Alton Richards is seventeen years old. His great uncle , Lester Trapp is rich and very fond of the game bridge. Uncle Lester is blind and therefore needs to use a cardturner in his games of bridge. After a disagreement he decides he needs a new cardturner. Under the influence of his mother,  who is in pursuit of Lester’s money, Alton takes up the position. However, the experience is more than Alton expected.

My Thoughts

I didn’t know if I was going to like a book about bridge but I say I loved this book, I mean I LOVED IT. It made me want to learn how to play bridge and become the best bridge player that ever lived. I  liked the writing style and how easy it was to read.

Alton was okay but I really liked Lester and the relationship he and Alton formed. Lester also said some things in the=is book that had me thinking – they were pretty.

The whole story was just so much more than bridge. It tugs at the heart strings a little but not too much. It wasn’t a book with a lot of twists and turns. It was just a good book that wasn’t too heavy and definitely worth the read.

Synopsis

Landline is an adult novel and is an=bout a woman, Georgie McCool whose marriage is going downhill. She believes that she is holding her husband, Neal, back and that he and their two daughters would be better off without her.

Georgie  is a TV comedy writer and works very long hours. She is a writer on a show and is waiting for her big break when she (and her best friend Seth) can have their own show. She lives in California but Neal is from Omaha. In December 2013, they decide to visit Neal’s mother in Omaha for Christmas.

Georgie’s big break comes right before they’re to leave for their vacation. She has the opportunity to write her own show. The problem is this means she can’t go to Omaha.

After Neal and her daughters leave, Georgie discovers a yellow landline that allows her to talk to Neal in the past. She now has the chance to fix her marriage before it starts but she has to decide if that is what she wants.

My Thoughts

I feel like the the characters in this book were very well developed. They had depth and back stories which made me understand them more and made it easy to relate to them. Overall they were more realistic than you’d see in a YA novel.

The writing was awesome. I mean it’s Rainbow Rowell and I love her writing so I didn’t expect any less from this book.

One problem I had with this book was I had with this book was I felt it was kinda anti-climatic. There was no point where I was wondering what was going to happen. Nothing had me on edge and the outcome was a little predictable.

Overall I really liked this book but it wasn’t awesome.

Right now, I’m reading A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin and it is the second book in the A Song of Ice and Fire Series. This book is not joke…I tell you, it is huge (and it’s not even the biggest in the series) . It has 873 pages excluding the appendix and I’m at page 756 so only 117 pages left. It took me a while to get to this point because I started reading this a couple of months ago but I had to stop because of how busy I was but I’m back at it again! (Like Daniel, lol).

This book is about Westeros where the quest to be king (or queen) sitting on the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms rages on. A war blazes in the land as many people claim o be the leader and reigning king (or queen). I have to say…I really love George R. R. Martin’s work . He puts so much thought and depth into his writing that it really ducks me in. J also like the changes in point of view for each chapter as it allows a total view of the events in Westeros and an understanding of what happens in the minds of some of the main characters . My favourite POVS are Tyrion- he is just so amusing and I love his schemes, Bran – he keeps me in touch with Winterfell, Catelyn- just for Robb, Jon Snow- because Jon Snow and sometimes Daernys- some of her chapters are better than others.

I am thoroughly enjoying this book and I’m excited to finish it and complete the rest of series- no matter how long it takes! I also want to watch the tv series but I have to read the books first.
